Before & After Breast Surgery

Breast Surgery Types

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery increases breast size and enhances shape using implants or fat transfer. It involves placing either silicone or saline implants under the breast tissue or chest muscle. This cosmetic procedure is ideal for women who want to increase their breast size, restore volume lost after pregnancy, or achieve better symmetry.
Breast reduction surgery removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to achieve a size more proportionate to the patient’s body. It can help relieve the physical discomfort associated with overly large breasts, including neck pain, back pain, and shoulder grooves from bra straps. The surgery also improves breast shape and position, helping women feel more comfortable with their appearance and making physical activities more manageable.
A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to create youthful contours. Women often seek this procedure after pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or natural aging has caused their breasts to lose firmness and elasticity. While a breast lift does not significantly change breast size, it can be combined with augmentation or reduction for enhanced results.
Breast implant revision surgery is performed to address complications or dissatisfaction from a previous breast augmentation procedure. This may involve removing or replacing implants due to rupture, capsular contracture (hardening of scar tissue), displacement, or simply a desire to change implant size or type. The revision surgery can address many aesthetic concerns, such as rippling or asymmetry, after the first cosmetic procedure.
Reconstructive surgery rebuilds the breast shape after mastectomy (breast removal) due to cancer or other diseases. Breast reconstruction is a crucial part of the emotional and physical recovery process for many women, helping to restore body image and confidence. This highly personalized procedure can be performed immediately after breast cancer surgery or delayed until after all treatments are completed.

Recovery After Breast Surgery

Week 1

During the first week, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed medication. If drainage tubes are used, they must be handled carefully before Dr. Nesiba removes them. Limited arm movement is recommended, and strenuous activities should be avoided. Patients must wear dressings and surgical bras to support the healing process.
Swelling and bruising gradually subside. During one of the follow-up appointments, Dr. Nesiba removes all non-dissolvable sutures to allow the body to heal fully. Light activities can be resumed, but heavy lifting and upper-body exercises should still be avoided. Patients usually return to desk work after 14 days of recovery. Residual tenderness or tightness in the chest area is expected as tissues adjust.
By this time, most patients can return to light exercise. Swelling continues to decrease, and scars begin to heal and mature. However, wearing supportive bras without underwires may still be recommended. Follow-up appointments with Dr. Nesiba help monitor progress and address any concerns.
By three months, most swelling resolves, and the final results of the surgery become more visible. Scar tissue continues to soften and fade over time. With Dr. Nesiba’s clearance, patients can resume intense physical exercise. Ongoing care includes regular check-ups and monitoring for any complications.

Candidates for Breast Surgery

Women Seeking Aesthetic Enhancement

Patients who are dissatisfied with the size, shape, or symmetry of their breasts often consider surgery. They may seek to enhance their appearance for personal or social reasons. Such patients typically have specific aesthetic goals and expect a transformation in their body image, aiming for a more balanced and proportionate figure.
A common reason for breast surgery is asymmetry, where one breast is noticeably larger or shaped differently from the other. Those with this condition often seek corrections to achieve a more balanced appearance. Surgical intervention can help create a more even breast shape, boosting confidence and comfort.
Some women may experience physical discomfort, such as back, neck, or shoulder pain, due to large or disproportionate breasts. For these patients, breast surgery can be considered not only for aesthetic reasons but also to improve comfort and overall quality of life.
Women who have experienced significant changes in breast volume or shape due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or substantial weight loss may seek breast enhancement. They often desire to restore firmness, reduce sagging, and create youthful contours.
Women who have undergone mastectomy due to breast cancer may be candidates for reconstructive surgery. Their main goal is to restore the shape and appearance of the breasts following medical procedures. Reconstructive surgery helps patients regain a sense of normalcy and confidence.

Benefits of Cosmetic Surgery

Cost of Breast Surgery
in Denver, CO

The cost of breast surgery in Denver ranges from $6,000 to $15,000, depending on the specific procedure and complexity of the case. Breast augmentation typically falls on the lower end of this range. In contrast, more complex procedures, such as breast implant revision or combined surgeries (e.g., a lift with augmentation), tend to be more expensive.
The price includes the doctor’s fee, anesthesia expenses, facility use, and essential care. Board-certified plastic surgeons typically charge more than less experienced professionals. In addition, reconstructive surgeons may have higher fees, depending on the procedure’s complexity.

Patients can receive personalized financial information during the initial consultation at Flourish Surgical Arts. We offer financing options and payment plans to make breast procedures more affordable. Our team also helps patients check their insurance benefits, particularly for breast reduction and reconstructive surgery. We always aim to become better than the best plastic surgeons in Colorado.
